TCF Canada practice app and software: what really exists
There is no point looking for “the TCF software” to download: it doesn’t exist. The TCF is taken at an approved centre, often on computer — but on the centre’s machines, with confidential test papers that no one is allowed to share. What does exist: two free practice resources recognised by France Éducation international, and mock-exam apps that reproduce the official format. Here is what each one covers, and what it doesn’t.
- No official software to download: TCF papers are confidential and may not be reproduced.
- “Computer-based TCF”: the session takes place on the centre’s computers; the centre says whether it offers it.
- Free and official: TV5MONDE (17 practice sets, 680 questions) and RFI (12 listening sessions of 16 questions).
- What the free resources don’t cover: writing and speaking, and a full timed mock exam.
- The “TCF DELF TEF: Tests 2026” app (iPhone): 16,547 items, 1,320 recorded audio files, mock exams in the official format, AI feedback on writing and speaking.

Why there is no official software
TCF papers are strictly confidential: reproducing or sharing any part of them — question, image or sound — is forbidden. So there are no official past papers and no “TCF software” to install at home. A site offering to download “the real TCF” or “this month’s questions” is selling either counterfeits or documents obtained illegally — a pointless risk when your immigration application is at stake.
The TCF is a standardised, calibrated, ISO 9001-certified test: each question is pretested, then weighted by its difficulty. You don’t need the real questions — you need to master the format, and the format can be learned freely.
The computer-based TCF
Many approved centres offer computer-based sessions. France Éducation international’s official list shows, centre by centre, whether a centre offers this option, and our centre pages repeat it — for example Toronto, India or Dubai. On test day you work on the centre’s computers: nothing to install, nothing to download. The test format is the same on paper and on computer — what matters is having practised it.
The two free official resources
France Éducation international cites two free resources, and only two:
- TV5MONDE: 17 practice sets, or 680 questions of listening, language structures and reading, written by the people who design the official tests.
- RFI (Le français facile avec RFI): 12 listening sessions of 16 questions, produced with France Éducation international.
They are excellent for listening and reading. What they don’t cover — writing and speaking, and a full timed simulation — is exactly where most points are lost on test day. How to turn them into a real mock exam: free TCF Canada practice test.
A mock-exam app in the official format
The “TCF DELF TEF: Tests 2026” app (iPhone, on the App Store) is built to fill the gap the free resources leave:
- 15 exam variants in the official format — TCF Canada, TCF IRN, TCF Québec, TEF, DELF, DALF — timed, and scored on each test’s scale, with conversion to CLB;
- AI feedback on writing and speaking against the official criteria: relevance, coherence, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and for speaking, pronunciation and fluency; the feedback needs an internet connection;
- 16,547 items in the main question banks and 1,320 recorded audio files — no text-to-speech in the listening tests (count of 29 July 2026);
- 100% original questions, every answer explained, and your mistakes coming back through spaced repetition;
- everything else works offline, with no account.
The test material is in French, as on exam day; the app’s interface is available in English, though some screens still show French.
How to practise, step by step
- A first full mock exam, timed, before any revision: it is the diagnosis that decides everything else.
- Listening and reading on the free resources: TV5MONDE and RFI, listening once only, as on test day.
- Writing and speaking with feedback: that is where the points are — a single point out of 20 can change your CLB level.
- About one mock exam a week while you prepare, then two or three full ones in the last ten days, for stamina and time management.
Practise on the real format
You pay the full fee for each session, and you can’t retake the test right away. The mock exams in the “TCF DELF TEF: Tests 2026” app follow the official format of each test — TCF Canada, TEF Canada, DELF, DALF — scored like the real thing, with AI feedback on writing and speaking.
Download on the App StoreFrequently asked questions
Is there official TCF software to download?
No. TCF papers are confidential and may not be reproduced, so there is no official software to install and no past papers. Sites offering to “download the TCF” distribute counterfeits or documents obtained illegally.
What is the computer-based TCF?
A TCF session taken on the approved centre’s computers rather than on paper. France Éducation international’s list shows, centre by centre, whether the option exists; the test format is the same.
Where can I find a free TCF practice test?
On TV5MONDE (17 practice sets, 680 questions) and RFI (12 listening sessions of 16 questions), the two resources France Éducation international cites. Neither covers writing and speaking, or a full timed exam.
Is there an app to practise for the TCF Canada?
Yes: the “TCF DELF TEF: Tests 2026” app, on iPhone, offers mock exams in the official format of each version and AI feedback on writing and speaking; it uses only original questions.
