TCF Canada: before you register
The TCF Canada is a test, not a diploma: there is no pass or fail — it places your level in each section, and IRCC converts the result into NCLC (CLB) levels. The results certificate is issued by France Éducation international, whichever centre you test at, and is valid for two years. Two things to know before you pay: a centre approved for the TCF doesn’t necessarily offer the Canada version — each page shows which centres advertised it on their website — and seats are scarce in the big cities. IRCC also accepts the TEF Canada.
DELF and DALF: the diploma
The DELF (A1 to B2) and the DALF (C1, C2) are official diplomas of the French Ministry of Education: you pass them level by level, and they are valid for life. In each country, a central management body sets the session calendar, and you register directly with a centre — an Alliance française, an Institut français, a university. Guides: DELF B2 exam · DELF B1 · DALF C1 · DELF B2 practice test. Centres: DELF in the USA · DELF in the UK.
Living in France: residence and citizenship
Since 2026, French citizenship requires B2 in French, and the resident card B1. What the rules ask for, and the tests that prove it: French citizenship language requirement: B2 · TCF IRN.

The centre gives you the date; the score is up to you
You pay the full fee for each session, and you can’t retake the test right away. The mock exams in the “TCF DELF TEF: Tests 2026” app follow the official format of each test — TCF Canada, TCF Québec, DELF B2 — scored like the real thing, with AI feedback on writing and speaking.
