Fees, validity, retakes
The fee. There is no national fee: each approved centre sets its own, and many — including the Alliance Française de Montréal — publish none. At the centres that posted a fee schedule in July 2026, a full test cost about €220 to €245 in Europe and $400 to $440 (CAD) in Canada. Be wary of the fees quoted on comparison sites: they are rarely sourced and often mix up the TCF Canada and the TCF Québec, which don’t cost the same.
Validity. The results certificate is valid for two years from its date of issue. IRCC’s rule is stricter than it looks: your results must be less than two years old when you create your Express Entry profile and when you submit your application for permanent residence. A test taken too early in the process can expire in between.
Retakes. There are no partial retakes: you retake all four tests. The number of attempts is unlimited. For sessions held since 1 September 2026, France Éducation international no longer accepts re-marking requests; before that, re-marking covered only the writing and speaking tests — never the multiple-choice questions — had to be requested within a month, and the new score replaced the old one, even if it was lower.
The waiting period between two attempts can’t be pinned down to the week. You will see both “20 days” and “30 days” quoted. Both figures come from France Éducation international itself: its test pages say 20 days, several of its PDF information sheets say 30. Don’t plan a second attempt around a deadline without having your centre confirm the waiting period.
Where to take the TCF Canada?
In France, at an approved centre that has chosen to run this version — not all of them do: as of 17 September 2026, ACTE (€195) and ACCORD (€220) in Paris, the Alliances françaises in Lyon (€220), Montpellier (€200) and Aix-Marseille (€240), KLF, CLPS (€285)… with about one session a month. In Canada, at one of the 48 approved centres, for $390 to $440, where seats go within minutes. Our guides on where to take the TCF Canada in France and in Canada check the centres one by one, with their fees, dates and procedure. In North Africa, same method: Algeria (five branches of the Institut français, IFAL platform), Morocco (sixteen centres, 2,900 dirhams) and Tunisia (880 dinars, results in five weeks).
Six centres we checked in our guides, among the 247 approved in France and the 48 in Canada — all six with computer-based sessions: ACTE (Paris), the Alliance française in Lyon, the Alliance française de Montpellier, the Alliance Française de Montréal, the Alliance française in Toronto (Spadina campus) and the Alliance française Canada Pacific (Vancouver).
